Famous Grouse Whiskey Virginia Hayward Originally known as the Grouse brand, this whisky became so well established in Scotland in the early 19th century that it became known as simply 'Famous Grouse'. Famous Grouse is a blend of flavoursome malt and lighter grain whiskies. The blend is largely based around the Speyside Tamdhu and Highland Park from the Orkneys. Other malts used come from all the five malt producing regions of Scotland. The whisky is mellowed by aging in oak barrels. The taste is soft and warm with a hint of peach on the finish. Benromach Whiskey Virginia Hayward A Speyside single malt, these are noted in general for their elegance and complexity, and often a refined smokiness. On the outskirts of the ancient market town of Forres, situated just East of the Highland capital of Inverness lies Benromach Distillery, the smallest working distillery in Speyside. Benromach produced its first run of spirit in 1898, and still create and distil a fine single malt whisky which is true to their heritage and the historical methods of days gone by. Benromach is handmade by experienced distillers using the finest malted barley and the purest spring water from the nearby Romach hills before being matured in hand selected oak casks. This whisky is straw yellow in colour with a nose of citrus, honey and pine resin and a palate of smoky cereal and malt. Whisky Gifts |

Glenlivet Whiskey Virginia Hayward The location of Glenlivet is crucial to the development and taste of the whisky. The Scottish Highlands form one of the last great wildernesses in Europe and no part of them is wilder or more remote than Glenlivet. In the lawless days of illicit whisky distilling, Glenlivet was too remote and dangerous for the excisemen to visit, resulting in a largely undisturbed and unhurried industry. This helped to create a smoother spirit, a characteristic prized by the makers of single malt. Combine this with the bracingly pure rarified air of one of the coldest places in Britain, the high altitude of the distillery which improves the process and the snow fed mountain streams which form the base of the whisky, and it becomes clear that this 12 year old single malt is indeed something very special. The colour a bright and lovely gold, the nose of summer fragrances mixed with floral and fruity aromas. The palate again has floral overtones, this time mixed with honey and almond biscuits, and a finish of hazelnuts, marzipan and fresh ginger. Whisky Gifts |

Highland Park Whiskey Virginia Hayward A Highland single malt, these have a rounded, firm, dry character with some peatiness. The distillery at Kirkwall in the Orkneys, in existence since 1798, is the most far flung in the British Isles today. This area is so uncompromisingly wild that it caused early geographers to refer to it as the northernmost fringe of the inhabited world. It is with this heritage that the succulent whisky from Highland Park has progressed from its illicit origins to the exceptional product that it is today, made to the same exacting standards as it has always been. The rich, succulent complexity of this single malt inspires passion in single malt enthusiasts everywhere. It has balance, character and provenance and epitomises all that is great about single malt Scotch whisky. Highland Park has a colour of glowing amber with a nose of heather-honey sweetness followed by pear and apple orchards. The palate is of rounded smokey sweetness before extending to a full malt delivery. Whisky Gifts |

Old Pulteney Whiskey Virginia Hayward A Highland single malt, these have a rounded, firm, dry character with some peatiness. The Old Pulteney distillery in Wick holds the record for being the most northern distillery on the British mainland. Just eighteen miles south of John O Groats, this windswept town has housed its small and traditional distillery since 1826. Historically the stills were fired by peat, and the water used from the Loch of Hempriggs was prized for its peatiness. The geographical location and close proximity to the ocean seems to have a profound effect on this amber malt, claiming a nose of salt and sea spray together with a sweeter trace of walnut cake, whilst being clean and aromatic on the palate. Macallan Whiskey Virginia Hayward A Speyside single malt, these are noted in general for their elegance and complexity, and often a refined smokiness. Whisky has been distilled legally on the current site at Craigellachie since 1824 and it is from this date that The Macallan can claim to have been in existence. Situated well beyond the malt whisky trail, this magnificent single malt stands confident of being one of the finest malts in Speyside, if not Scotland. The distillery uses unusually small stills which are all direct fired, meaning that contact between the liquid and copper is relatively high. This leads to a more refined and less oily spirit. The Macallan Fine Oak is matured in three different types of barrel: European oak seasoned with sherry, American oak seasoned with sherry and American oak seasoned with bourbon. This 10 year old malt is pale straw in colour with a fruit and heather honey nose, and a soft and malty palate which is balanced with oak and fruit. Whisky Gifts |
